In her lab, Shuri races to recreate the heart-shaped herb to save her ill brother T'Challa. Then her mother, Queen Ramonda, tells her he has died.
Dressed in white, Wakanda sends T'Challa off with song and dance. The Marvel logo that follows is made entirely of images of him, in silence.
A year later, Queen Ramonda stands firm at the U.N. as nations demand Wakanda share its vibranium. Meanwhile, Wakanda's warriors have captured mercenaries who raided one of its outposts.
A U.S. expedition detects vibranium on the ocean floor. Then blue-skinned people rise from the sea and wipe out the crew.
A man with wings on his ankles appears before Shuri and her mother. Namor, king of the undersea nation Talokan, demands they hand over the scientist who built the vibranium detector, or he'll attack Wakanda.
Shuri and Okoye track the detector to an American university. Its inventor is Riri Williams, a 19-year-old genius student.
Chased by the FBI and Namor's warriors, Okoye is defeated, and Shuri and Riri are taken to Talokan.
The queen strips Okoye of her command for failing to protect Shuri.
Namor shows Shuri his kingdom and his history. Centuries ago, his people drank a vibranium-infused plant that let them live underwater, and he has protected them from the surface world that once persecuted them.
Namor proposes Wakanda join him in a war on the surface world, and threatens to destroy Wakanda first if they refuse.
Nakia, living in Haiti, rescues Shuri and Riri, killing a Talokanil guard in the process.
Enraged, Namor floods Wakanda. Queen Ramonda saves Riri but drowns.
Using the undersea plant from a bracelet Namor gave her, Shuri recreates the herb and takes it herself. On the Ancestral Plane, she meets not her mother or brother but her cousin Killmonger, who urges her to choose revenge.
Shuri awakens as the Black Panther and prepares for war at sea, with M'Baku's warriors and fighters in new flying armor.
Wakanda loads a ship with a detector to lure Talokan to the surface. Riri joins the fight in a suit she built herself.
Shuri captures Namor and crashes with him in the desert. Weakened away from the sea, he's at her mercy, until she remembers her mother's words.
Shuri chooses peace over revenge and asks Namor to yield. He accepts, and the war ends.
Namor tells his cousin that Wakanda will now need Talokan as an ally against the surface world.
Shuri visits Nakia in Haiti and burns her white funeral robe on the beach. At last, she lets herself grieve for her brother.
Nakia has a son, born to her and T'Challa. The boy reveals his true name is T'Challa.
