A Life Foundation spacecraft carrying life forms found in space crashes in Malaysia. One creature escapes, jumping from host to host.
San Francisco reporter Eddie Brock is popular for standing up for the little guy. His fiancée, Anne Weying, is a lawyer.
Eddie interviews Life Foundation CEO Carlton Drake and, using files he secretly read on Anne's laptop, accuses him of deadly human experiments.
Eddie is fired, Anne loses her job too, and she leaves him.
Six months later, Life Foundation scientist Dora Skirth tells Eddie that people are being used in experiments.
Eddie sneaks into the lab and finds a homeless woman he knows trapped there. As he tries to free her, the creature inside her jumps to him.
Eddie suddenly becomes incredibly strong and craves raw meat and garbage. He hears a voice in his head.
When Drake's men attack, a black creature erupts from Eddie's body and takes them down. It calls itself Venom.
Pursued by drones and cars, Eddie and Venom flee through San Francisco on a motorcycle.
Anne and her new boyfriend, Dr. Dan, help Eddie. The loud noise of an MRI forces Venom out of him.
Meanwhile the escaped symbiote, Riot, makes its way to America and bonds with Drake.
Venom briefly bonds with Anne to reach Eddie, and then reunites with him.
Drake and Riot plan to launch a rocket and bring many more symbiotes to Earth.
Venom says it's come to like Earth, and Eddie, and decides to stop the invasion.
On the launch pad, Venom and Riot fight savagely. Venom blows up the rocket, and Riot and Drake are consumed by fire. Venom seems to die protecting Eddie.
Eddie learns Venom survived inside him. They agree to eat only bad guys and start acting like heroes, together.
Serial killer Cletus Kasady summons Eddie to prison for an interview, promising that there will be carnage.
