In 1996, at a home for troubled kids, young Cletus Kasady bonds with Frances Barrison, a girl whose scream can shatter anything.
Frances is taken to Ravencroft. During the transfer, young officer Patrick Mulligan is injured by her power.
Eddie and Venom live together. Venom wants to eat people, and Eddie won't let it. They bicker constantly.
At the request of Mulligan, now a detective, Eddie interviews Kasady. Venom spots clues to where the victims are buried, and Eddie's story becomes a sensation.
Anne tells Eddie she's engaged to Dan.
Just before his execution, Kasady bites Eddie's hand during a final visit and takes in a piece of Venom along with the blood.
When Kasady is given the lethal injection, a red symbiote bursts out of him. Carnage is born, and the prison descends into chaos.
At the same time, Eddie and Venom have a huge fight, and Venom leaves Eddie's body.
Away from Eddie, Venom hops from body to body and ends up at a costume rave, where it makes a speech and becomes the star of the party.
As Carnage, Kasady breaks Frances, Shriek, out of Ravencroft. They abduct Mulligan.
Shriek kidnaps Anne too. Kasady plans to hold a wedding in a church.
Venom gets back to Eddie by hitching a ride in Mrs. Chen.
Eddie and Venom apologize for what they said and bond again.
In the church, Venom fights Carnage, who's stronger and has the upper hand.
Shriek's scream and the church bells weaken both symbiotes. Venom seizes the moment and devours Carnage. Kasady and Shriek die.
Now wanted by the police, Eddie and Venom lie low at a beach resort.
In a hotel room, as Venom talks about worlds beyond theirs, they're suddenly pulled into another universe, where the TV news reveals Spider-Man is Peter Parker.
