Busy being Spider-Man, Peter is late with pizza deliveries and gets fired. He's always late for class, too.
MJ is starring in a play. Peter promises to come but gets caught up in a crisis and misses it. MJ starts dating astronaut John Jameson.
Harry now runs his father's company. Still convinced Spider-Man killed his father, he resents Peter for photographing him.
Peter meets Otto Octavius, a scientist funded by Harry's company. Otto is devoted to his wife Rosie and kind to Peter.
His public fusion demonstration spirals out of control, killing Rosie. The four thinking mechanical arms become permanently fused to his body.
With the chip controlling the arms destroyed, Otto, swayed by the arms, resolves to rebuild the experiment.
Otto robs a bank for funding. Aunt May, who happens to be there, is taken hostage, and Spider-Man saves her.
Peter's powers start failing. He falls off walls and can't shoot webs.
Peter decides to quit and live a normal life, and throws his suit in the trash. It ends up at the Daily Bugle.
His grades improve and he finally sees MJ's play. But crime in the city rises.
Peter tells Aunt May that Uncle Ben's death was his fault. She's devastated.
Later, May tells Peter there's a hero in everyone, and people need heroes.
Hearing a child is trapped in a burning building, Peter rushes in without his powers and saves her.
Otto needs tritium. Harry agrees to supply it if Otto brings him Spider-Man.
Believing Peter can reach Spider-Man, Otto snatches MJ from a café where she's talking with Peter.
Desperate to save MJ, Peter's powers come back. He reclaims his suit and becomes Spider-Man again.
Fighting atop a train, Otto wrecks the brakes. Spider-Man stops the train just in time by anchoring webs with all his strength.
The passengers carry the unconscious Peter. They see his face, promise to keep his secret and hand back his mask.
Otto delivers Spider-Man to Harry. Harry unmasks him and finds his best friend Peter.
Peter storms Otto's lab, where the experiment is again spiraling out of control and threatening the city.
Peter takes off his mask and reminds Otto who he really is. Otto commands his arms to obey and sinks with the reactor into the river.
MJ learns Peter is Spider-Man. He still pushes her away to keep her safe.
Harry sees a vision of his father in a mirror and discovers the Green Goblin's hidden room behind it.
On the day of her wedding to John, MJ runs to Peter's apartment in her wedding dress.
Hearing sirens, Peter leaps out the window, and MJ watches him go.
