In their Baxter Building home, Sue Storm tells her husband Reed Richards she's pregnant. They've hoped for a child for a long time.
A TV special recounts their story. Four years ago, cosmic rays struck them in space. Reed can stretch, Sue can turn invisible and make force fields, Johnny can burst into flame and fly, and Ben became a being of rock.
The four are beloved around the world for protecting the city. Even their old foe, the Mole Man, now cooperates with them.
One day a silver herald appears over New York and announces that Earth will soon be devoured by Galactus.
The four fly into space to stop Galactus, with Sue pregnant.
They meet the colossal Galactus, who offers to spare Earth if they give him their unborn child.
Escaping Galactus, Sue gives birth aboard the ship to a boy, Franklin.
Back on Earth, people learn the family refused the deal and turn angry and afraid.
Sue addresses the public: they won't give up their child, but everyone can face this together.
Reed devises a plan to move the entire planet. When it fails, they switch to sending Galactus far away instead.
Johnny talks with the herald, Shalla-Bal, and learns she began serving Galactus to save her own world.
Galactus lands on Earth and marches through New York toward Franklin.
Reed, Johnny, Ben and even the Mole Man team up to lure Galactus to the teleporter.
Sue pushes Galactus into the device with all her strength. She collapses, but baby Franklin's power brings her back.
Shalla-Bal disappears into deep space along with Galactus.
Earth is saved, and the family begins a new life with Franklin.
Some time later, Sue finds a masked man beside young Franklin, widely understood to be Doctor Doom.
A short bonus scene closes the film.
