Clint is at his farm with his family, teaching his daughter archery. In an instant, his wife and children turn to dust.
Tony and Nebula drift through space in a broken ship. Food and air running out, Tony records a farewell message for Pepper.
A glowing Carol Danvers appears and carries their ship back to Earth. Tony reunites with Pepper, unloads his anger on Steve, and collapses.
The remaining heroes find Thanos farming on a quiet planet. But he has already destroyed the stones. In fury, Thor cuts off his head.
Five years pass. Steve leads a support group for people who lost loved ones. Natasha stays at Avengers HQ, keeping in touch with allies on Earth and in space.
Scott, stranded in the Quantum Realm, is accidentally freed. For him, only five hours have passed. He wonders if the Quantum Realm could be a way into the past.
Steve and the others visit Tony, who lives by a lake with Pepper and their daughter Morgan. Afraid of losing what he has, he says no, but that night he works out how time travel could be done.
Bruce has merged the Hulk's strength with his own mind. Thor is drowning in drink and video games in New Asgard. Natasha goes to Tokyo to bring back Clint, who's been killing criminals.
They work out where each stone was in the past and split into three teams: New York in 2012, Asgard in 2013, and space in 2014.
Just after the Battle of New York, Bruce persuades the Ancient One to lend him the Time Stone. Steve fights his past self and gets Loki's scepter. But the plan for the Tesseract fails, and the 2012 Loki vanishes with it.
Tony and Steve go to a military base in 1970 to get the Tesseract and more Pym Particles. Tony talks with his young father Howard, and Steve watches Peggy through a window.
Rocket draws the Reality Stone out of Jane. Thor talks with his mother Frigga before her death, finds himself again, and summons Mjolnir.
Rhodey and Nebula get the Power Stone. But Nebula's cybernetics link with her 2014 self, and the 2014 Thanos learns of the plan. The 2014 Nebula takes our Nebula's place.
Natasha and Clint reach Vormir and learn the stone demands the life of someone they love.
Each fights to be the one who dies. In the end, Natasha throws herself from the cliff, slipping from Clint's grip. Clint is left holding the Soul Stone.
Everyone returns to the present except Natasha. The heroes mourn her by the lake.
Tony and the others build a new gauntlet. Bruce, strong enough to survive its power, puts it on and snaps. His arm is badly burned, but Clint's phone rings: everyone has come back.
Moments later, the 2014 Thanos, brought forward by his Nebula, bombards the compound and turns it to rubble.
Tony, Steve and Thor face Thanos. Steve lifts Mjolnir, stunning Thor, but Thanos is overwhelming and even splits Steve's shield.
Steve stands alone before the army when he hears "On your left." Portals open everywhere, and the heroes who came back, with the armies of Wakanda, Asgard and more, pour through.
With Steve's call of "Avengers, assemble," the final battle begins. The heroes pass the gauntlet from hand to hand to keep it away from Thanos.
Tony looks to Strange, who holds up one finger: the one future out of 14 million where they win.
Thanos takes the gauntlet and snaps, but nothing happens. The stones are already on Tony's hand. "I am Iron Man," he says, and snaps. Thanos and his army turn to dust.
Burned by the stones' power, Tony is surrounded by Peter, Rhodey and Pepper. Pepper tells him he can rest now, and he dies.
Pepper and the others watch a message Tony recorded before the heist. Then every hero gathers by the lake for his funeral.
Thor names Valkyrie ruler of New Asgard and leaves to travel the stars with the Guardians.
Steve goes to return every stone to its time. He doesn't come back on schedule, and then an elderly Steve is found sitting on a nearby bench.
The old Steve gives his shield to Sam. In the final scene, a young Steve dances with Peggy in the past.
There's no scene after the credits, only the clang of hammering from when Tony built his first suit in Iron Man.
